How can I use Skype on Ubuntu?

Skype is proprietary software that allows you to make calls over the Internet using your computer.

Skype uses decentralized peer-to-peer technologies, so your calls do not go through a central server, but through distributed servers and other users.

The Skype software is free to use, but it is not free software; the source code is proprietary and not available for modification.

Skype is not installed by default on Ubuntu. Follow these steps to install Skype for Linux:

Open your web browser and go to the Download Skype page.
Click the Get Skype for Linux DEB button.
In the window which shows up, select Open with and Software Install (default), and then click the OK button.
Ubuntu Software is opened. Click the Install button and authenticate.

You can choose the displayed language by adding a language suffix to the web address so it ends with e.g. .html.en or .html.de.
If the web address has no language suffix, the preferred language specified in your web browser's settings is used. For your convenience:
